Launched in 2015 and lovingly maintained ever since, the M/V Samambaia is a twin-masted, 40-metre wooden phinisi schooner built by divers, for divers, and finished to a standard of understated Indonesian luxury. She carries just 14 guests in seven beautifully appointed staterooms — including double, twin, and convertible cabins plus a striking 160-square-foot master suite with 180-degree sea views — each with its own en-suite bathroom and individually controlled air conditioning. A crew of 18 to 22, working alongside a generous 4-to-1 divemaster ratio, ensures attentive service both above and below the waterline, while a dedicated camera room, twin hot-water dive deck showers, and two swift 21-foot tender skiffs round out the diving infrastructure. Samambaia roams eastern Indonesia’s finest grounds — Raja Ampat, the Banda Sea, Alor, and Komodo — chasing manta cleaning stations, volcanic muck sites, and technicolour reef walls. Regional waters hover around 27–30°C year-round, with visibility often exceeding 25 metres in dry-season conditions, best experienced by matching itinerary to monsoon: Raja Ampat from roughly October to April, and Komodo and the Banda Sea through the drier months of May to November. Free-flowing nitrox, fresh-baked bread, and daily ice cream keep the mood as generous as the diving.
