Komodo

Komodo has a splendid variety of marine habitats: coral reefs, mangroves, seagrass meadows, seamounts, and enclosed bays. Expect lots of drift diving (with reef hooks) due to the strong currents, which draw manta rays, stingrays, sea turtles, and schooling pelagics. And don’t forget the dragons.

Alor & Flores

Alor is a critter diving wonderland, with a colorful assortment of Coral Triangle creatures hiding within black sand reefs. Flores is home to Maumere Bay, a natural aquarium with 1,200 species.

If You Enjoy Raw Nature
Nusa Tenggara feels absolutely primeval, from the rugged volcanic landscapes to the dinosaur-ish Komodo dragons. Underwater, there’s black volcanic sand, mangroves, seamounts, and healthy coral reefs. There are few places on Earth that feel so archaic, yet also teeming with life.

If You Enjoy Drift Diving
Komodo has strong currents and is best-suited for intermediate and advanced divers. Alor and Flores are a bit smoother, but some of the dive sites are also subject to unpredictable currents. Expect a good amount of drift diving with reef hooks.

If You Enjoy Liveaboards
Nusa Tenggara encompasses a long stretch of ocean and the islands are relatively undeveloped, so a liveaboard is the best — if not only — way to dive. A liveaboard voyage allows you to enjoy the gorgeous volcanic landscapes and spot migrating whales.

Even though you’re on a liveaboard, Nusa Tenggara offers more topside adventures than the Banda Sea or West Papua. The liveaboard operators will arrange an exciting variety of excursions for you: seeing the Komodo dragons, touring local villages, island trekking, volcano sightseeing, and then some.
