With almost three decades at sea, Pindito is Indonesia’s original liveaboard pioneer — an owner-operated classic phinisi launched in the Banda Sea back in 1992 and still commanded today by her Swiss owner, Edi Frommenwiler. Her smooth-riding, stabilised hull and meticulous safety record have made her a favourite of seasoned divers and underwater photographers alike, who settle into one of eight comfortable en-suite cabins tended by a devoted 24-member crew and ferried to dive sites aboard four dedicated tenders. A purpose-built camera room, family-style Indonesian and international cuisine, and a refreshingly flexible, weather-driven approach to itinerary planning set Pindito apart: rather than following a fixed script, her captains chase the best tides, currents, and conditions across Raja Ampat’s coral-encrusted seascapes, Komodo’s dramatic walls and manta-filled channels, and the pelagic-rich, volcanic Banda Sea. Regional waters stay invitingly warm at 27–30°C, with visibility often stretching past 25–30 metres during the dry season. Timing matters here — Raja Ampat shines brightest from October to April, Komodo from May to October, and the Banda Sea has two golden windows in March–April and September–November — and Pindito’s decades of local knowledge mean she’s always positioned exactly where the diving is best.
