Description

The Humboldt Explorer is a purpose-built dive yacht carrying just 16 guests in eight air-conditioned cabins across the main and lower decks, each with private ensuite bath, television, and ample storage — an intimate scale that keeps the boat nimble in the Galapagos’ famously strong currents. Onboard, divers find a partially covered sundeck with a jacuzzi and lounge seating, a full salon for dining and entertainment, and a generous dive deck equipped with a large camera table, charging station, individual gear bins, and rinse tanks built for serious underwater photographers. What sets the Humboldt Explorer apart is its signature seven-night itinerary, the only Galapagos liveaboard route offering a full four days of diving at remote Darwin and Wolf Islands, where drift dives regularly deliver hammerhead schools, whale sharks, Galapagos sharks, eagle rays, and playful sea lions, complemented by land visits to see blue-footed boobies and frigatebirds and macro-rich dives at Cousin’s Rock. Conditions shift dramatically by season: the cooler, nutrient-rich months of June through November bring the highest whale shark concentrations but chillier water (16-24°C/61-75°F, colder at depth) and misty, overcast air near 19-27°C (66-81°F), while December through May offers warmer water (22-28°C/72-82°F) and generally better visibility, typically 10-20 meters. For divers chasing the ocean’s most electrifying big-animal encounters, the Humboldt Explorer remains one of the definitive ways to experience Darwin and Wolf.
