Perched on Bonaire’s calm western shore, Captain Don’s Habitat was founded by dive pioneer Captain Don Stewart, whose conservation-minded ethos still defines the resort today under the banner of “diving freedom” — unlimited, unguided shore diving available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, with direct access to the protected reefs of Bonaire National Marine Park just steps from the property. The full-service, on-site dive center also runs guided boat trips, PADI courses, and equipment rental for divers of every level. Accommodations range from Deluxe Ocean View rooms and waterfront Junior Suites to one-, two-, and three-bedroom bungalows with full kitchens and covered patios, plus newer garden-view rooms clustered around their own pool; every room includes air conditioning, cable TV, and a private balcony or patio. Beyond the water, guests enjoy an oceanfront restaurant and bar, a boutique, a spa, and babysitting services, all wrapped in a relaxed, laid-back island atmosphere. Bonaire’s diving climate is famously consistent, with water temperatures typically in the high 70s to low 80s Fahrenheit, warm air temperatures in the mid-80s by day, and visibility that often exceeds 100 feet.
