Description

For more than 50 years, Anthony’s Key Resort has offered a quieter, more intimate take on Caribbean diving from its perch on Roatan’s northwestern shore in Honduras’s Bay Islands. Guests stay in private waterfront bungalows built out over the water or in hillside hideaways framing the sea, all deliberately unplugged, with no phones or televisions to distract from the rhythm of island life. The resort sits minutes from the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef, the second-largest barrier reef system on Earth, where divers explore vibrant coral walls, swim-throughs, and drop-offs teeming with reef life, and can even join hands-on coral nursery conservation dives. Anthony’s Key is equally known for its educational dolphin encounters and its onsite Roatan Institute for Marine Sciences. Days unfold around morning boat dives, hammock afternoons, freshwater pool time, kayaking, paddleboarding, and dinners at the Ankor Seafood Grill. Roatan’s warm Caribbean waters stay comfortable year-round, generally 81 to 88°F (27 to 31°C), with visibility often exceeding 100 feet in calmer months. The prime diving window falls between roughly March and September, with April and May frequently cited as the sweet spot for clarity and dry weather; the wetter season runs mid-October through February, and while official hurricane season spans June through November, Roatan sits far enough west to be rarely struck directly.
