Lissenung Island Resort occupies its own tiny private island just off Kavieng, at the remote northwestern tip of New Ireland in Papua New Guinea, where powder-white beaches, swaying palms, and a fringing house reef create an intimate castaway atmosphere for a maximum of just 16 guests. This is a dedicated, owner-operated dive resort where three purpose-built boats reach outer reefs, drop-offs, and World War II wrecks within 20 to 30 minutes, running up to three boat dives a day plus complimentary night and shore diving on a house reef teeming with 350 recorded fish species. Kavieng sits within the Coral Triangle and is celebrated for a rare combination of exceptional macro life alongside pelagic action—sharks, dogtooth tuna, barracuda, and Spanish mackerel—drawn in by the area’s often-brisk currents. Water temperatures stay balmy year-round at 28–30°C (83–87°F), with visibility frequently ranging from 20 to 40 meters. While diving is rewarding in every season, the best conditions generally fall between April and June and again from September into early December, bracketing a wetter period from December to April that still delivers warm water and excellent clarity.
